Since setting up a number of partnerships with local
community organisations, Capital Credit Union, the not-for-profit,
mutual, financial services co-operative, has helped over 300 people
in West Lothian through offering access to easy-to-use savings accounts,
ethical banking services and creating an affordable alternative
option to expensive door step lenders, as well as providing financial
services to in excess of 2,000 West Lothian Council employees.
Councillor Isobel Hutton is pleased with the positive
steps made by Capital Credit Union, commenting that the organisation
"offers a great approach to overcoming difficult times, like
those of the Farepak collapse, which saw many families struggle
over the festive period".
Councillor Hutton also commented that "the
credit union offers a fantastic first port of call for those who
struggle to gain access to financial services elsewhere" and
also expressed her delight at the rate of growth and expansion that
has been experienced by Capital recently, as well as the great lengths
they have taken to bring their services closer to local residents.
Membership offers access to low cost loans, a convenient
method of savings and a credit union current account is also available
to everyone, regardless of financial circumstance or previous credit
history. The credit union really encourages the good habit of saving
whilst also giving access to affordable and ethical financial services.
Marie Ann Condy, a local resident who recently joined
Capital Credit Union, has also expressed her appreciation of the
service, stating that "the savings account is easy to use"
and feels that it will help a lot with her fast approaching wedding
plans. She was also pleased with "the friendly and personalised
service" which she says really makes a difference.
