Schools Logo Competition Winners

West Lothian Credit Union Forum recently ran a competition for local children to design a logo for the schools savings schemes in the area. Over 150 children competed, and the winners, all from Whitdale Primary School in Whitburn, received certificates, along with savings in a credit union account. The picture on the left shows (from left to right) Marc Wright, Erin Weir and Sam McGarva receiving their certificates for first, second and third prize. The picture on the right also includes children whose logos were "highly commended" - Emma Cassidy in the back row and (front row, left to right) Colin Wood, Erin Brown and Christopher White. Shannon McGregor's logo was also highly commended and is pictured on the table at the front.
The winning logos will be featured in a wall planner and other credit union publicity material.

Whitdale Primary is one of ten schools in West Lothian where children can save money with a credit union. The children must get their parents' permission to join, and get a colourful savings book so that they can check how much money they have saved, as they bring in their money each week. Many of these children are also learning about saving and budgeting as part of their school studies, so saving with a credit union gives them practical experience as well.

The local credit unions would like to open more school savings schemes, but need parent volunteers from each school to help. If you are a teacher or parent, and are interested in helping set up a collection in your school, please contact Janet Mundy of West Lothian Credit Union Forum on 01506 436678 for further information.
