Schools

Credit Unions in West Lothian run savings schemes in several schools in West Lothian, and more will open in the near future. We work closely with West Lothian Council Education Department to encourage children to get practical experience in saving and budgeting, to complement the theory they learn in school. The credit union goes into the school once a week, usually first thing in the morning, to collect from the children.

West Lothian Credit Union Forum runs financial education workshops in schools for all ages from nursery to secondary to teach young people about budgeting and saving. See the video below for examples of our work in partnership with schools throughout West Lothian.

These are the schools that currently have savings clubs:

Although credit union staff or volunteers set up the collection initially, we are limited in the number of schools we can cater for. We are therefore always keen to encourage parents at the school to help with the collection for around one hour a week.
