Volunteering with Credit Unions in West Lothian

Our credit unions are run by volunteers, and we are always looking for new recruits. Initially, you would be asked to help out collecting and distributing money at collection points, and also to help with promotional activities or administrative work if you prefer not to have contact with the public.

New volunteers receive a structured training programme, which includes formal and on-the-job training and support. After an initial induction programme, ongoing training is provided by mutual agreement with the volunteer. We are also keen to help our volunteers' personal development by providing skills training such as customer care and IT qualifications.

Our volunteers list a variety of benefits to volunteering with a credit union:

  • the opportunity to meet people and make new friends
  • the opportunity to learn new skills in preparation for paid work
  • retired people can bring their professional skills to the voluntary sector and help their local community
